Suechika Assorted Notecards

Introducing our third note card set featuring the illustrations of NIsei WWII veteran artist, Ben Suechika.

Ben was born on December 6, 1919, in Del Rey, California, where his family worked as tenant farmers picking grapes. After being incarcerated at the Gila River WRA camp in Arizona, Ben moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was soon drafted into the U.S. Army eventually joining the Military Intelligence Service as a Japanese language instructor at Ft. Snelling. Ben retired from the Army in 1971 as a Lieutenant Colonel. In 2011, he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal along with members of the 100th/442nd RCT. He firmly believes that his Army training and discipline are the reasons for his fulfilling life. Ben remains active while living in Torrance, California, playing his harmonica, spending time with family and enjoying his favorite food, sushi.
